Remember God's Mercies

Every morning that breaks

There are mercies anew

Every breath that I take

Is Your faithfulness proved

And at the end of each day

When my labors are through

I will sing of Your mercies anew.

How often do we forget the truths of this song? The alarm clock buzzes us awake every morning and it's Go! Go! Go! until our heads hit the pillow. With projects due, sermons to write, kids to handle, and taxes to file, the chaotic mess of life always overwhelms us. In the busyness, in the routine, we tend to forget the blessings the Father lavishes on us.

Reader, can I just ask you to pause? Just breath. And ponder the mercies God has given to you today. He gives you another day to live. Everyday is a gift, a blessing, to glorify our God. We live this day to sing His praise. Just take a moment, and praise Him.

Thank God for the small things He grants you - for the food He provides, the friends you know, and the family you can cherish. Ask yourself, "how can I build others up today and encourage them to give thanks to God for what He gives?".

While what I write may not be a novel idea, it is still important. We naturally want to pity ourselves and to grumble and complain when life grows heavy and mundane. But Paul commands us in Philippians to "do everything without grumbling or complaining" (2:3) and without anxiousness. Furthermore, we must rejoice and, "with thanksgiving make our requests known to God" (4:4, 6). Today, while it is still called today, rejoice! For today is a gift, and tomorrow as well.
